Lil' Sanchez
This setup is built inside of a low roof Ford Transit 150. The client had already had a vent/fan and some electronics (inverter, solar and aux bat.) installed and wanted us to design a setup that can primarily help her travel more efficiently with her surfboards and music equipment, but also wanting to incorporate a bed system, a table to work on and some storage solutions. We used Western Cedar planks on the walls and ceiling which gave an awesome aroma to the van. The rear cargo area/bed design is a modified version of the setup we created for our other build “Humphrey”. This design allows for plenty of cargo space for hauling gear especially when the bed is broken down and the low profile panels are stowed against the wheel wheel unit. Removable lids held in place with high-pull magnets give you access to the large storage areas within the wheel well cabinets on both sides. Additional tie down location were also installed to help with securing gear. In the front portion of the driver-side wall unit we built storage cubbies on either side of a sturdy, easy to setup table. This laminated flip-up table also serves as a cover/access door concealing the electronics and aux. battery. All the power ports you would need are purposely located right next to the table to create work area suitable for cooking or taking care of business. The shelving unit on the wall directly above this area was built specifically to be able to store large mason jars which the client uses often.
A warm feeling interior created by the natural colors of the Western Cedar planks while the open layout allows for plenty of room for cargo.
With the panel bed set up there is still plenty of cargo storage available.
Our Cieling Surf Straps keep the boards secure and out of the way.
The filp-up table creates a capable work station with available power outlets to run your tools or devices.
The flip-up table is secure enough to leave up while driving.
The recessed LED lights in the ceiling are on a 3-way switch with a dimmer allowing you to be able to turn the lights on/off from the side or rear of the van.
The low-profile panel bed setup stows away with very little obstruction to your cargo space.
We were able to hide the aux. battery, inverter, and other electronics out of the way behind the flip-up table.
